Can anyone share their experiences with this program? I am considering applying and am wondering how rigorous the program is and how confident people feel about its academic standards. Also, do you know if people go on to Phd's after this program, or do most people become therapists/counsellors?
Thanks:)
Thanks:)

Re: Question about the MA Cont. Psych. program
Sat, January 5, 2008 - 10:28 AMI'm rather late to this party, but thought I'd chime in anyway.
Naropa's Grad Psych programs (Somatic, Contemplative, Transpersonal) are specifically geared towards training psychotherapists, rather than preparing one for a PHD, although you could still go on to a PHD, but really you are being trained to go out in the world as a practicing therapist. The cornerstone of the programs, IMHO, is the experiential nature. Classes are more like group therapy than the traditional lecture format at "mainstream" schools. The maxim, "you get out of it what you put into it" will define your experience at Naropa. You will be taught practical instruction on how to work as a therapist, but as far as rigor goes, well, it's kinda like Harvard - mostly A's, a few Bs. You would have to work at not "showing up" to get a C, which basically means you'd have to take the class over again. And at $700 a credit hour, you'd have to be pretty stupid as well.
Note - I've just completed the first semester in the Transpersonal program, but all three programs share a building and many of my TA's were contemplative.
